Far Right Radio Review
In 1990, Willis Carto's Liberty Lobby put a talk show called "Radio Free America" on shortwave, with Tom Valentine as the host. They found that they were able to spread their holocaust revisionism, conspiracy theorizing, and subtle racism quite effectively in this medium. Since then, a radical right-wing movement with roots in white supremacy, tax protest, and county power organizations has resurfaced in the form of the "Patriot" movement, which includes militias, "Christian Identity" groups, and "Wise Use" anti-environmentalism. A major factor in the growth of this movement has been its use of shortwave for organizing and recruitment. Leaders learned from Willis Carto's experience that with one program on one station which broadcasts nationwide, they can reach all of their potential supporters without arousing the attention of the community in a local station's broadcast area. One can now hear programs about 'racism', militancy, and/or 'conspiratology' nearly 24 hours a day.

In response, the "Far Right Radio Review" has been taking a critical look at this phenomenon since February 1994. The program features details on the backgrounds of far right-wing radio producers, analyses of the history of organized racism, and commentary on the activities of people within the "Patriot" movement. The program also examines the reasons that people are so receptive to the message of this movement and recommends alternate solutions.

Computer networks have also been vital to the distribution of information in the recent explosion of intolerance. The Far Right Web Review provides links to Web sites on the extremist fringe.

The Far Right Radio Review Update is a regular column in VISTA, the quarterly newsletter of RFPI.

It is a dose of potential reality intended for current or would-be smokers today. Hosted by Ryan Kilpatrick.

Far Right Radio Review, Oct. 21st 1999 Guest: Prof. Michael Barkun, author of the book "Religion and the Far Right: The Origins of the Christian Identity Movement."
It's been called the glue that holds the far right movement together.  Christian Identity is found in the voices of the likes of Pete Peters, Bob Halstrom, Dave Barley, Jim Wickstrom and others.  Many white supremacist groups of the radical right such as the Aryan Nations, the Order, the Posse Comitatus and elements of the Ku Klux Klan are deeply committed to the distinctive but little recognized religious position known as Christian Identity.
