URGENT PETITION

Estimados amigos: 

 

El 21 de Julio pasado a las 12:30 pm, guardas armados de la Universidad para la Paz cerraron con cadenas la entrada a Radio Paz Internacional en El Rodeo, Costa Rica. 

Además, se les pidió desalojar la radio y oficinas dentro de dos semanas, plazo que se cumple el lunes 4 de agosto. Luego, se puso un guarda armado a la entrada.

 

Les solicitamos a ustedes y sus organizaciones firmar esta urgente Petición al Gobierno de CR. 

 

Guía para enviar esta Petición: 

  1. Copie las direcciones del Presidente y otros (todos) en un mensaje nuevo.

  2. Copie y pegue el texto de la tabla adjunto en español e inglés

  3. Agregue su nombre, ciudad y país.

Dear friends, 

 

On July 21 at 12:30 pm the staff of RFPI was locked into the office/studios at El Rodeo, Costa Rica.

Armed guards from the U-paz chained and locked RFPI's gate and a two week notice, deadline 4 August, was given by u-paz to remove belongings. An armed guard was placed later on in the week.

 

We urge you/your organization to please sign this important petition to preserve freedom of speech and justice!

 

Instructions to mail this Petition:

Solicitud al gobierno de Costa Rica con respecto a la crisis que confronta Radio Paz Internacional

 

 

A) Pedir a los/las representantes del gobierno de Costa Rica ante el Concejo de la Universidad para la Paz que convoquen a una reunión de emergencia del Concejo de la Universidad para la Paz para:

 

1)      Tomar una decisión sobre el actual impedimento al libre acceso del personal y desahucio de Radio Paz Internacional.

2)       Pedir a un equipo de mediadores de la Naciones Unidas que lleguen a un acuerdo justo y permanente sobre este asunto.

3)      Permitir el libre y continuo acceso a Radio Paz Internacional a un grupo de monitores internacionales para asegurarse de que, cualquier coerción o intimidación contra Radio Paz puede ser documentada y referida a la Secretaría General de las Naciones Unidas y al Concejo de la Universidad para la Paz.

4)      Permitir el acceso a la Universidad para la Paz a representantes de organizaciones de derechos humanos con sede en Costa Rica y otros países, para que lleven a cabo investigaciones sobre violaciones a las leyes internacionales humanitarias y de derecho.

 

B) Anunciar en todos los medios de comunicación masiva que el Gobierno de Costa Rica se opone a las acciones arbitrarias en contra de Radio Paz Internacional.

Petition to the Government of Costa Rica Regarding the Current Crisis at Radio for Peace International

A) Request Costa Rican representatives to the Council of the University for Peace, to call for an emergency Council meeting of the University for Peace in order to: 

1)      Consider and make a decision concerning locking up free access to facilities and letter given to Radio for Peace International requesting the staff to leave their own building.

2)      Ask independent United Nations mediators to reach a just, fair and permanent mutual agreement on this matter.

3)      Allow independent international monitors unimpeded and continuing access to RFPI in order to ensure that any coercion or intimidation can be documented and reported to the United Nations General Secretariat and other members of the University for Peace Council.

4)      Permit representatives of human rights organizations based in Costa Rica and elsewhere access to the University for Peace to carry out investigations of violations of international humanitarian and human rights law.

 

B) To publicly announce the Costa Rican government is against current arbitrary actions against Radio For Peace International.
